Oculus GO VR headset price; cheapest and most portable Standalone VR headset

Facebook and Oculus just recently released the Oculus GO VR, a fully portable standalone virtual reality (VR) device that defies its predecessors. But that’s not the exciting part.

What’s exciting is the Oculus GO VR headset price; a retail price of just about $200. The Oculus GO is the least expensive standalone VR device that doesn’t need a smartphone or other connecting device.

This means you do not need to carry along your entire base-station, pc, controllers, or headsets. The Oculus is fully standalone, including inbuilt microphone and speakers and only comes with a wireless controller.

An array of impressive specs for the Oculus Go VR’s headset price point

The Oculus Go VR headset price is $199 for the 32GB edition and about $249 for the 64GB. For that price, you might be fooled into thinking it probably doesn’t match up the specs. Well, you would be wrong.

The Oculus Go VR comes with a 2560x1440 HD display that features Oculus’ latest optic lenses that provide a resolution higher than Samsung’s Gear VR, although slightly lower than HTC’s Vive Pro.

Another notable aspect of its display is the diminished sense of god-ray effects otherwise prominent in the Oculus Rift.

The GO VR comes with a battery capacity of about 2.5 hours so you’d comfortably catch the whole of Justice League – while on your flight or an outdoor vacation - without breaking a sweat.

The Oculus offers 3 degrees of freedom, unlike the 6 degrees you’d get from the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive, but which is quite impressive for a portable headset that doesn’t have the benefit of processing power that the Rift and Vive enjoy from a desktop or PC.

How the Oculus GO VR headset price stacks up against the Samsung Gear VR

The Oculus Go is basically a portable version of Samsung’s Gear VR that sells for about $100. However, there’s a catch:

The Gear VR only works with some of Samsung’s finest and most expensive phones. We’re talking a few variants of the Note 4, Samsung Note 5 and subsequent Note versions and the Samsung Galaxy S6 and higher S-versions.

These phones go for upwards of $200. So the Gear VR’s $100 price point might be misleading in that regard. And the same goes for Google’s Daydream.

The Oculus GO VR headset price point of $200 remains impressive, especially if you’re new to the VR experience, would mind the hustle of adding a smartphone to the budget and aren’t necessarily an ardent gamer that demands the intensity of the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.
